I’ve had eczema all my life and I know the struggle of testing out hundreds of “skin-saving” creams and products hoping that one will be my ticket to calm, flake-free skin. A good, eczema-friendly cream will provide the moisture barrier we need to protect our sensitive skin. And luckily, I have tried and tested SO many creams, cleansers, masks and moisturisers that I can share with you all the best products that have helped my skin the most. Hopefully, this year is the year you can banish your red, flaky and dry skin forever! Whether you’re looking for the best cream to use for yourself or even for your toddler’s eczema, there is something in this list that will help even the most troublesome eczema flare-up.
- Weleda Skin Food
This cream is my go-to when my skin is craving some moisture. It is a lifesaver when nothing else is able to battle extreme dryness. A mega plus is that it smells delicious, just like oranges. The consistency of this cream is so thick and feels very luxurious as it soaks into your skin. I use it mainly on my face as this is where I struggle most with dryness, however, it is a good all-rounder and can be used all over. There is also a body cream version as well if that is something that might work better for you!
- Nivea creme
This is a classic and is one of those old-fashioned favourites but honestly, I can understand why. It is so gentle on the skin and it offers almost instant relief from severely dry skin. I actually forgot all about this cream until a few months ago, I used to use it a lot when I was younger to help my dry skin and now I’ve started using it at night after cleansing to give a massive boost of hydration. This cream is super thick but that’s what makes it so great for super dry skin, I use it almost like a face mask and let it soak into my skin. After just a week of using it, my skin was glowing again and the dullness from being so dry before had completely vanished! Super impressed and definitely a skin saviour for cold and dry winters!
- La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume
This moisturiser is great for anyone with incredibly sensitive skin. If you have eczema you’ll be very aware how frustrating and insatiable the itch can be, thankfully, this moisturiser has amazing anti-scratch properties that actually calm the itchiness and help you avoid damaging your skin from scratching at it! I used this cream religiously when my eczema was going through a pretty bad flare and it helped so much by calming my skin down and providing some deep moisture to help pass through the flare. My only problem was that when my eczema was raw or if I had any open wounds or scratches, this cream did nip a little – this only lasted a few seconds and would disappear. But definitely worth knowing if you try this with any open eczema scratches or wounds. Other than that, this is really good and can be used all over your body, I even used it on my face which helped me stop scratching my face.
- Balmonds Skin Salvation
This is AMAZING. Honestly, no other word for it. If you have eczema you’ll know how an unstoppable scratch fest can result in cuts and scratch marks that seem to take forever to go away. This ointment from Balmonds is the best thing you can use when this happens – the formula is so rich and soothing and almost instantly calms down any redness or painful cuts. As well as being great for eczema sufferers, this is a brilliant all-rounder and can be used on all manner of skin rashes or bites. Definitely, a must-have!
- La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 with SPF50
You need SPF. Even when it’s cloudy, even when it’s raining, no matter the weather you will always need SPF. If you have eczema or suffer from any other skin sensitivity, even acne, this balm will suit your skin. La Roche Posay products are amazing at calming down even the most irritated skins and with added SPF you can be sure you won’t cause any more damage to your face! This moisturiser is known as a repair cream and contains Vitamin B5, Glycerin and Shea Butter which are known to provide deep moisture and comfort to skin and get it back to normal! I use this cream daily as my SPF as it helps to keep my face flares at bay and I am extra-comforted knowing I’m also protected from the sun. This cream also comes without SPF if you want to use it as a night cream too.
- Child’s Farm Baby Moisturiser
I feel like for the past few years this cream has been touted as a “miracle” cream and has been recommended so many times for eczema sufferers. I have used this frequently for the past couple of years and I definitely think it’s worth a try for anyone struggling with any skin irritations. For me personally, it isn’t my miracle cream but I know many people with eczema who swear by this one and it has saved their skin! I love the fresh and clean smell of this cream and the light consistency make it perfect for more minor skin irritations.
- Hope’s Relief Derma-Lotion for Dry Skin and Itchy Skin
I ordered this after being recommended to me through Amazon. This is cream from an Australian brand and contains lots of skin-saving ingredients including mango, shea and olive butters. The formula is so rich and it instantly relieves dry and itchy skin as soon as it is applied! This is another one that can be applied all over and I used it both on my face and body.
- Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish
I tried this on a whim a few months ago, I was staying at my mum’s and she has used Liz Earle products religiously for years swearing by them for her sensitive skin. I tried out the hot cloth cleanser and the rich moisturising cream for a couple of days and honestly was so impressed with how glowy my skin looked after just a couple days using these products! The products are so soothing and contain chamomile known for calming down even the most irritated skin. If you’re stuck and want to try a gentle skincare routine for your eczema this is definitely a good shout! After using, I purchased my own starter kit and then repurchased again because I was so impressed and still use the products now!
- Liz Earle Skin Repair Rich Cream
As well as the hot cloth cleanser I also purchased this cream and it definitely does what the name suggests – skin repair! I even started using this when my face was going through a flare and by the next morning my redness had calmed down and I almost looked like I wasn’t flaring! It is definitely on the pricier end of the scale but if you are looking for a more luxury skin-care routine I would recommend this.
- Kiehl’s Ultra-Facial Cream
I first used this when I was around 18, so about 7 or so years ago and let me tell you I used this product religiously for YEARS. I stopped using it for no other reason than I just wanted to try new products but now that I’m writing this I’m tempted to go purchase again as I remember being so amazed by it! When I was using this, my eczema didn’t flare too much on my face but I did suffer from extremely dry skin and this stuff really helped stay in control of it. I also remember reading that Kim Kardashian uses this cream before applying foundation so it is really effective as a make-up primer too.
I hope that there is something in this list that will help manage your eczema or sensitive skin a little better this winter! if you try any please let me know or, if you have any other must-try creams or products please recommend them in the comments below.
