After a year and a bit of lockdown, I’m certain I won’t be the only one who is dreaming of all the trips I will take when restrictions lift and travelling is safe to do again! Hopefully, this summer will be the time when all our travel dreams will manifest but if not, I hope you can find some enjoyment in this post and maybe find some inspiration for your future travels! My dream for post-coronavirus (will this ever happen?) is to go interrailing and explore more of Europe! In preparation for this trip, I’ve created a bucket list of places I would love to visit in my little jaunt around the continent!
- Liechtenstein
I won’t lie and say this is somewhere I’ve always wanted to go, the truth is that up until a few weeks ago, I hadn’t actually heard of it before! BUT after absolutely INHALING Kara and Nate’s travel vlogs on YouTube I instantly became obsessed with this little place. They spent a few days in Liechtenstein on their European trip and were even lucky enough to celebrate the National Day drinking free beer in the grounds of the palace with the Prince of Leichtenstein! As a small principality between Austria and Switzerland, this country is only 25km long AND is one of the smallest countries in Europe! This adds to it’s charm and intrigues me to go explore what this little place has to offer! I can’t wait to visit on my interrail trip.
Make the most of your time in Liechtenstein and stay at the city’s coolest hotels. Find a room here!
- Budapest
Okay, now THIS is somewhere I have always wanted to go. I swear at the start of every year for the past five years I have told myself “okay, this will be the year I go to Budapest”… It’s on my list because I have still not managed to get there!! Will this year finally be the year?? Probably not, but I’m holding out a lot of hope for 2022. Let’s wait and see, shall we! Until then, I will close my eyes and pretend my bathtub is the beautiful thermal baths haha.
Budapest is a great place to start your interrail adventure. Find flights to Budapest.
- Oktoberfest
In Germany, beers and sausages seem to go hand in hand (maybe a tad stereotypical) but I am HERE for it. And what better place to enjoy two of my favourite things than a 2 week long drinking celebration! I am set on getting to Oktoberfest and can’t wait to dress up and drink up all of the culture! (I know that Germany has loads more to offer than just Oktoberfest and I can’t wait to enjoy the country but this is just one part in particular that has been on my list for a while.)
- Venice
The floating city of loooove, VENICE! To me, Venice (and Italy in general) just oozes romance and I have visions of me sitting on a gondola sipping on an ice cold Aperol Spritz watching the beautiful sun-drenched city sail past. All before disembarking and heading off to eat my weight in spaghetti as the sunsets. Very much looking forward to the Italian leg of my interrail trip!
- Split
From what I’ve seen of Split, it seems like such a beautiful and idyllic place to explore. It has everything a city could need, beautiful scenery with plenty to see as well as a beach with crystal blue waters to rest your tired feet after long days of exploring! I can’t wait to visit Split and I plan to head there in the middle of my interrail trip to recharge and enjoy some much-needed time on the beach.
Stay at a romantic beach-side hotel!
- Vienna
For basically my whole life one of my favourite songs has been Vienna by Billy Joel, it seems a bit silly that that song has inspired me to one day visit this beautiful place. Of course, this city has a lot more to offer than just a song named after it and I can’t wait to take in all of the stunning gothic-style architecture of Vienna… and listen to Vienna on loop whilst I’m there.
- Turkey
I’m sure everyone has seen those beautiful pictures of the hot air balloons floating over Cappadocia – that is my vision for going to Turkey. It is my dream to fly in a hot air balloon and I think Turkey would be the most picturesque setting for doing it!
- Lithuania
Whilst trawling through countless travel blogs and vlogs and shows, the beautiful city of Vilnius has kept coming up and now it is firmly on my list! It looks like the whole country is seeping with culture and there are so many different things to see, from big busy cities to Trakai castle in the middle of Lake Galve! I think it will take a good few days to truly experience Lithuania.
- Amsterdam
Another one that has been on my list for as long as I can remember. I am hoping Amsterdam can be one of the first stops on my interrail trip. One of the attractions I am most excited about in Amsterdam is to see Van Gogh’s Sunflowers up close!
- France
Who hasn’t dreamed of sipping wine whilst soaking up the sun in a French vineyard. A few years ago, I was spending the summer in St. Tropez and one evening we went along to a vineyard and tried all their rosΓ© wines and honestly it was one of those experiences that I will always remember. That’s why doing it again, hopefully in a different wine region, is firmly on my interrail bucket list!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and it’s provided a little escapism from the doom and gloom of lockdown while we look forward to a summer of (hopefully) travelling. Or, at the very least… it’s given you a little inspiration of things to do and places to go when we are eventually able to safely travel and visit new places again! Have any of you been interrailing already? If you have and you have any MUST-DO, MUST-SEE attractions that I should be aware of please let me know in the comments below!!

These are wonderful locations. I’ve already been to some and would love to visit others. Hopefully we’ll be over with this pandemic soon so we can get back to travelling and tourism.

I can’t wait until I get to go back to exploring Europe! There are so many interesting places to go to! Out of these ones I’ve only been to Amsterdam and Venice (I’ve been to Salzburg but not Vienna). Amsterdam is pretty much a staple in my families travel itinerary since my dad used to live there – one thing I will say though is to make sure to book your tickets to the Van Gogh museum in advance because we just tried to turn up and weren’t able to get in!

Thank you so much for your comment! Oh what a great tip, thank you! I definitely would have turned up just hoping to get in haha. Oh, Salzburg must have been beautiful – my parents have been there and the pictures are stunning! x

My sister went to Split a couple of years ago and LOVED it! I’d love to do Vienna too. Ah just any kind of travel would be amazing, wouldn’t it!?

Amsterdam is wonderful, beautiful architecture, easy to get around (as long as you avoid the cyclists and trams that is) and lots to do, itβs also quite cheap.
My biggest tip is to book the Anne Frank museum before you go, I made that mistake and ended up queuing for 2 hours π

Thank you so much for your comment! I’m really excited about Amsterdam – I’ve heard so many great things! Oh, what a great tip. I couldn’t deal with queueing that long haha especially if it’s the height of summer!
